Charging Light On but Not Charging – What’s Going On?
If your laptop shows the charging light but isn’t actually charging, the problem may not be obvious. In this article by Mbeya Digital Savvy, we walk you through various reasons and step-by-step solutions.
1. Check the Power Adapter
Make sure the charger is the original one provided by the manufacturer. A faulty or underpowered charger may show a charging light without delivering actual power to the battery.
2. Inspect the Charging Port
Dirt or damage inside the charging port may block proper power flow. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean it carefully.
3. Reset the Battery Driver
Go to Device Manager > Batteries > Uninstall "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and restart your laptop. This can reset the battery controller.
4. BIOS & Firmware Update
An outdated BIOS can cause battery miscommunication. Visit your laptop brand’s official site and update BIOS and power firmware.
5. Test with Battery Removed
If your laptop allows battery removal, take it out and run the laptop only with the charger. If it powers up, the battery may be the issue.
